'Born survivors. The flight and return of refugees after the First World War'

During the First World War, hundreds of thousands of Belgians fled their country. Most of those living near the frontline areas ended up in France. No-one imagined it would take four years before they could think about returning. The complete destruction of their homes and villages confronted many of them with a heart-rending choice. Should we go back or not? And if we go back, what will we live on? 'Born survivors' answers these questions and shows how people picked up the threads of their lives after the Armistice.
