100 years armistice
A war always leaves empty chairs behind
The centennial remembrance ‘100 years Great War 2014-2018’ is concluded with a quiet and universal peace message in the three-day total programme.
- On friday 9 november the final of the Arts installation Assembly - Memorial Chairs takes place at the Astrid Park in Ieper (Ypres). This will be followed by the 11 November reading. The evening is concluded with the concert The Great War Remembered at Saint Martin’s Cathedral.
- On saturday 10 november the remembrance concert ‘Distortion, a Hymn to Liberty’ with Dirk Brosse, Sioen and Jef Neve is performed at the Memorial Gardens of Zonnebeke. The concert is preceded by the Passchendaele Ceremony at the Crest Farm Canadian Memorial in Passchendaele.
- On sunday 11 november 100 years of Armistice are commemorated to the sound of the Last Post under the Menin Gate at 11 am and 8 pm. In the afternoon the remembrance concert The Great War Remembered is performed for the second time at Saint Martin’s Cathedral.
This project is an initiative of the Flemish government in co-operation with the city of Ieper (Ypres) and the municipality of Zonnebeke, In Flanders Fields Museum, Last Post Association and Westtoer.
